Koshu Hyakume is a large-sized persimmon, whose name comes from the fact that it weighs about Hyaku (100) monme (Hyaku(100) monme = about 375g. “Monme” is a unit of weight used in Japan). It’s a typical variety of astringent persimmons. Because its astringency is so strong that it’s pretty much inedible when raw, however the fruit becomes as sweet as other types of fruit when dried.
